In 1980, Postle introduced some of the first Postalloy® .045" (1.2 mm) hard surfacing wires and helped pioneer their development and growth. Today, small diameter hard surfacing wires have gained widespread and world-wide acceptance.

In 1987, recognizing the need for wear resistant solutions that went beyond welding, Postle introduced its MetalTec® range of special repair and abrasion resistant ceramic compounds. They are unique blends of advanced polymers combined with ceramic and stainless steel fillers.

In 2002, Postle turned their attention to the Oil and Gas Drilling industry. A group of uniquely designed non-cracking wear resistant alloys was created to for hardbanding drill pipe. Tuffband NC was developed in 2002, followed by Duraband NC in 2007, the first 100% crack free hardbanding alloy for maximum wear protection.

Our Goal

The goal of hardfacing technology is to improve productivity, reduce down time and reduce the cost of replacement parts by extending the service life of parts and equipment.

At Postle, we strive for product and technical leadership. In order to assure success time after time, we consistently focus our time and energy on providing welding products that are of the highest quality and welding know-how that is second to none. Every effort is made to provide welding alloys with maximum performance that are user friendly.

Railroad Welding Products North America has over 200,000 miles of track that must be maintained on a daily basis. Wear from the constant pounding of rail cars and locomotives or frogs and switches is a never ending problem. In 2013, Postle Industries turned its attention to welding applications in the railroad industry related to hard surfacing and buildup of rail and track components. Two new products were introduced – Postalloy Frogtuff and Railtuff, available as both flux-cored wire and flux-coated electrodes. Postle Introduces More Advanced Hardbanding Products For over 40 years, Postle Industries, Inc. has been designing alloys and procedures for many industries including mining, farming, agriculture, recycling and construction to name a few. With the successful history of Postalloy® Hardfacing Products, it was only natural for Postle Industries to become involved in the complex wear of drill pipe, heavyweight, drill collars and casing/risers. Our R & D department has work tirelessly to address the wear and casing concerns of the drilling industry, and as a result, Tuffband® NC was introduced in 2003. As drilling increased throughout the world, a need for a more wear resistant product became apparent due to the severe drilling conditions encountered in the oil and gas fields. Postle addressed this necessity with the development of Duraband® NC, which is designed specifically for these severe wear applications.

Hardbanding Solutions, a separate business unit of Postle Industries, operates exclusively in the oil and gas exploration industry, as well as geothermal drilling. Our R & D Development goal focuses in 3 primary areas:

  • Non-Cracking
  • Casing Friendly
  • 100% Rebuildable

Duraband® NC and Tuffband® NC hardbanding alloys are the most reliable products in the industry and have been independently tested and certified to protect the casing and still provide excellent protection of the tool joint to prolong the life of the drill string. They are 100% rebuildable and are Fearnley Procter NS-1™ Certified for application on new tool joints, as well as, re-application over itself and most competitive products.

The cost of hardband re-application can be very expensive if the previous hardband must be removed before re-application can proceed. Close to 80% of the total cost of a re-application is removal of the previous hardbanding, application of mild steel as a buildup, and subsequent machining of the mild steel to prepare the tool joint for the application of the hardband. Duraband® NC can substantially reduce the cost of re-application since it can be applied over most previous hardbanding, without the need for removal.

Hardbanding Solutions by Postle is committed to developing crack-free, casing friendly alloys and welding techniques to meet the industry’s needs. Our focus isn't just on laboratory, marketing, production and delivery skills, but also on keeping a pulse on the oil/gas and drilling industries through participation in such organizations as the API Casing Wear Group, CAODC, IADC and DEA, as well as the American Welding Society. Only through this close and dedicated effort are we able to address the pressing issues and trends of the day and the future.

Following that we developed tool joint build-up wires and a non-magnetic hardbanding.

As drilling continues to grow and drilling demands change, Postle Industries will be there to support, develop and deliver quality hardbanding products. Your drill pipe deserves the best…it deserves Duraband NC and Tuffband NC!

Postle Industries continues to grow and expand because of our dedicated staff, expanded research and manufacturing capabilities. We are continually developing new hardfacing products to conquer the causes of wear – abrasion, impact, erosion, friction, heat and cavitation. Whether you’re extending the life of new OEM parts or rebuilding equipment already in service-we can help. Our expert engineering support and quality products will extend part life and lower your operating costs.
